Embryology Lab - ΥΓΕΙΑ IVF Εμβρυογένεσις

Embryology Lab

lab

The Embryology Lab of the HYGEIA IVF Embryogenesis Unit is the most advanced lab in Greece and one of the best worldwide.

Fully qualified and experienced embryologists, state-of-the-art equipment and processes based on the strictest international safety standards make the HYGEIA IVF Embryogenesis Unit the most reliable choice for all infertile couples.

Time-lapse technology

Time-lapse systems include niche incubators with special integrated digital microscope cameras. The embryos are photographed every 5-10 minutes and these photos are incorporated into videos using special software. This way, we now have information about continuous embryo development for as long as they are in the lab. All this without being removed from the incubator at all. The embryos remain in the optimal environment of the incubator, so as to avoid their adverse exposure to non-ideal external conditions.

Real-time embryo recording as they develop in the lab, combined with advanced software and the huge data sets arising from time-lapse systems, paves the way for new possibilities. Time-lapse combined with the smart artificial intelligence (AI) systems available at the Embryology Lab of the HYGEIA IVF Embryogenesis Unit can predict with extreme accuracy which embryos have a higher likelihood of leading to a successful pregnancy and are expected to increase the success rates even more, introducing a new era of automation in the Embryology Lab. In addition, time-lapse is a very useful research tool, offering new information on embryonic cell development, which until recently was unknown to embryologists.

LifeAire IVF air purification system – The only one in Greece

Air quality in the Embryology Lab is crucial for optimal embryo development during their culture. It is necessary for the lab environment to be free from threatening pathogens, volatiles and microparticles.

The state-of-the-art LifeAire IVF air purification system was recently installed in the Unit’s Embryology Lab; the first in Europe and one of the few globally. It neutralizes up to 99.99% of contaminants and has been clinically proven to increase the IVF success rates by up to 14.9%. Specifically, the advanced filters of the LifeAire IVF system destroy embryotoxic airborne pathogens and remediate up to 99.99% of biological and chemical contaminants in the air, as well as viruses, including corona viruses, providing air quality and safety in the Embryology Lab, where embryos develop. It is the first system in Europe and, currently, one of the few globally.

RI Witness tracking and identification system

Effective tracking and identification of eggs, sperm and embryos, matching them to the unique corresponding patients at all stages of the IVF process is also a legal prerequisite currently. The RI Witness electronic system uses RIFD technology, and ensures the accuracy of the procedures step-by-step and the absolute safety, transparency and mostly the trust of our patients.

Log & Guard lab condition monitoring system

The stability of the conditions within the Embryology Lab is achieved by constant real-time recording of all critical parameters through the Log & Guard monitoring system. This system offers continuous 24/7 recording of all critical lab conditions (temperature of incubators, refrigerators, areas, pH in culture media, levels of CO2 and N2 gases in the incubators, liquid nitrogen levels of the genetic material storage in the Cryopreservation Bank).

Groundbreaking IVFVision.ai AI System

The latest IVFVision.ai artificial intelligence system installed in the Embryology Lab accurately selects the most suitable embryo for embryo transfer, therefore, increasing the chance of pregnancy in infertile couples.

The IVFVision.ai system uses artificial intelligence as well as latest generation computer imaging to review the morphology of blastocyst images (specifically the images of the day 5 embryos ), analyzing huge data sets that the human mind cannot process, and accurately selects the blastocysts that are most likely to be implanted, as well as the ones most suitable for cryopreservation.

Cryopreservation Bank

The HYGEIA IVF Embryogenesis Unit has a special Cryopreservation Bank, with an official license from the National Medically Assisted Reproduction Authority. The Bank is located within the Unit and meets high standards and all safety guidelines. The Bank has an advanced electronic system for 24-hour monitoring of the liquid nitrogen levels in the genetic material storage units, as well as provides strictly limited access to authorized personnel only, offering a completely safe environment for the storage of frozen embryos, eggs and semen.
